Again on Social Media

Recently, I encouraged you to get out there in the social media universe. If you haven’t done it, do it now.

I ran across this little gem this week: 11 Obvious Signs Your Nonprofit Needs Social Media Training. Great stuff.

Here’s my take for those just getting started:

  1. Create a Facebook page. Some of you still aren’t there, others are using a group, and still others are using a personal identity (first name “Evansville” last name “Habitat” – seriously?) Use a page.
  2. Start a blog. As I mentioned last week, this is the key to my process. It’s easy, and it can be free. At the very least, take a look at Blogger.
  3. Start an email distribution list. Mailchimp gives you up to 2,000 email addresses in your list and up to 12,000 emails per month, completely free. That’s more capacity than you need.

If you need help, let me know. I assure you, it’s easier than you think.
