According to the article, “Charitable Giving Experiences Biggest Boost Since Great Recession,” overall giving was up 4.9 percent in 2013, while online giving grew 13.5 percent.
A Charitable Giving Report, released by Blackbaud, Inc., explains that two factors have helped drive the growth in charitable giving: 1) the recovering economy and 2) a focus on fundraising fundamentals.
Some additional key findings from the Charitable Giving Report include:
- Online giving accounted for 6.4 percent of all charitable giving in 2013.
- Large organizations had the greatest increase in overall charitable giving in 2013, while small organizations had the greatest increase in online giving.
- More than one-third (33.6 percent) of overall charitable giving happened in the last three months of the year, with the highest percentage (17.5 percent) coming in December.
In addition, online giving to faith-based organizations grew the most in 2013, compared to other giving sectors.
These report findings create a positive outlook for charitable giving in 2014. It also shows that online giving may be becoming more acceptable in church fundraising programs.
