Church Giving Down in Post-Recession

Posted on

I read in a recent article that while charitable giving has been rising for the past four years, religious giving has been flat since the Great Recession. When adjusted for inflation, church giving has actually declined by 1.6 percent.

In fact, the religious share of charitable giving has declined over the last 30 years. In the 80s, religious giving made up half of all charitable giving and now it represents only 31% of overall charitable giving.

Now more than ever, it’s important to use strategies that will help improve the success of your church’s capital campaign.

At CCS, we have recently identified what we feel are the three pillars of capital campaign success. The pillars include:

  • Inspiring Leadership
  • Two Financial Questions Every Member Shares
  • Owning the Plan

To learn more about the first pillar of success, please read our recent newsletter – Three Pillars of a Successful Capital Campaign.
