NextGen Donors, pt. 3 – Create a fundraising plan

Millard Fuller, found of Habitat for Humanity

Impact.
Connecting Mission and Money.

And, now, time to create a plan.

One of my all-time favorite Habitat quotes is from our founder, Millard Fuller:

“I have tried raising money by asking for it, and by not asking for it. I always got more by asking for it.”

Okay, so money is not all we are after. It’s not even the prime objective. Remember, we’re all seeking to change lives. Most importantly, we want to connect people who care with strategic and effective solutions. That requires a comprehensive strategy for engaging donors and prospects.

Comprehensive – the plan must take into account all revenue streams, and it must be embraced, at least in some way, by every stakeholder (donor, volunteer, staff).

Strategy – the plan must be written and specific, with targets and constituencies plainly identified, and it must address immediate goals with a long-term view.

If you’re just starting from scratch, you can at least identify three goals to work on this year. And if you ever need some constructive feedback, I’m here to serve you and your organization. Please email or call.
