The Fundraiser’s Nine Lives

File this under “worst animal metaphors about fundraising of all time.” But, I couldn’t resist posting a cat picture.

Over the next nine weeks, I want to give you a view into the world of the successful fundraiser. Take a trip with me through the nine lives of the fundraiser. By the end of the journey, you’ll be engaging your key donors at a deeper level, and adding donors to your organization.

And, remember, deeper engagement equals bigger investment.

I want to start with our boards of directors. Most of us need some work in this area. So we’ll talk board performance, expectations, accountability, and commitment. Speaking very frankly to the executives out there, if your board isn’t living up to your expectations, it’s your fault. They hired you to be their CEO – lead them.

Then we’ll discuss the habits of an effective fundraising staff. Getting out of the office, visiting with donors, crafting the “case statement,” having routines and habits that lead to success, and identifying volunteer leaders.

So, are you with me for the journey? Let’s go! Next week – #1 – “Board performance is a staff problem.”
