Very few church members will leave a planned gift to their church. Adding a church to one’s will is very easy to do. So why aren’t more members doing that? Because the church doesn’t ask.
Fortunately, asking for a planned gift in the church is easy. There are three components which, when used together, help inspire members to remember the church in their wills.
- Legacy Giving Messages – Include short, simple reminders in every communication, such as, “Remember the church in your will.”
- Annual Seminars – Bring in a respected professional, such as an estate attorney, to speak about estate planning issues.
- Personal Asks – Make private, one-on-one requests at an appropriate time.
